In Response To: Pelicans, Hornets, and Hippos... (Roger Wilco) Got this comment via e-mail today. Makes a valid point so I'd thought I'd post it up if anyone's interested. > From:
My response: Good to here from you...these are just the sort of comments I was looking for. Thanks for responding. The M-47 modular system was conceived long before Halo but I'm glad you think it fits. As to the verisimilitude of the weapons in Halo I can say this: There is a fine balance between making it realistic and just plain cool. For instance: IMHO, it seems unlikely that the Marines, who are capable of FTL travel, Cyborg super-soldiers, etc. would still be using cased ammunition. The M-47, like the HK G-11 on which it is based, uses caseless ammo. Much more efficient. However, watching the brass fly out of the LAAG is "just plain cool." As for the "Angry" Pelican, the rocket pod on top was taken directly (as were the textures) from an existing vehicle. I don't have the designation or country of origin but it was pretty bad-ass. Imagine a M1 Abrhams with that rocket pod in place of a turret. As for the Hornet...well, firing 8 SPNKr's at once into a crowd of covies...'nuff said. Ultimately you may be right. Some of these may be a little over the top. It will come down to a gameplay and balance issue. In the playtesting phase of any games development this can take months to tweak. Time will tell, and besides, I've got a couple ideas for some Covenant weapons-of-mass-destruction. Thanks again for the comments.
