In Response To: Re: Pelicans, Hornets, and Hippos... (oldmano'theC)

I'll just say that if the ability to mod is there, people like you and I will be very busy.

...looks like "Hornet" is off my list of names, but the design rocks ;)

...Storm~

very very busy...I can't wait. If you were planning on Hornet for something, by all means. I was swaying between that and WASP anyway. How's the Badger coming? :P

: the Hornet is an interesting design, but seems a little under-defended on the
: mid-ship flanks -- perhaps some AI-controlled gunports providing point
: defense for those areas not easily covered by the turret & forward
: cannons?

Good point. this will come down to a gameplay issue. If any vehicle is too heavily defended it will have an unfair advantage.

: Hippo -- well, maybe, it's about as ugly as a real military vehicle can be
: (no offense; form follows function, and sleek lines mean little cabin
: space), but having the grenade launchers & cannon on the same turret
: seems dangerously limited -- they can all fire only in the same direction
: -- unless i'm missing some aspect of the design.

Another good point. It may work better to have the grenade launchers on the chassis facing fore and aft to clear out any un-godly heathens before dropping troops. I will explore this.

: Angry Pelican -- i have a problem with a VTOL aircraft being able to heft a
: 6-ton daisy-cutter. sorry, but it seems the raw lift capacity needed would
: require way oversized turbos, leading to swiftly diminishing returns in
: the mass-to-power ratios. this is even more of a consideration if the
: craft is heavily armored, which this slug-a-bed would need to be to
: survive to its payload delivery point.

Since there are no specs on the Pelicans it's hard to say what their capabilities are. We at least know they can carry a Warthog and seem to have room for 8-10 Marines. That works out to about 4 tons. I took a little liberty on this one. There is also the question of how that Scorpion gets to the surface. If it's by Pelican then I have room to move. I don't know the numbers but I recall that Harriers are capable of lifting a tremendous load. If a Pelican is loaded on board it's base ship, it may be more feasable.

: M47 mod-wep-sys (if i may be so bold) -- quite an arsenal in that li'l gun!
: but in gameplay, especially Halo, it would be a chore stting up the
: configs, breaking the pace of the combat ("wait, guys, lemme fit this
: here shotgun thingie on there, huh?"). not that this can't be one
: aspect of a PC-based game, but it seems like it might slow things down
: substantially.

I should have mentioned that the pistol design has been posted before and conceived long before Halo.It was really more an experiment in modular systems within the context of manufacture. Never-the-less you are right, it would be cumbersome.

: models & renderings: very well-executed. some may be a bit elaborate in
: actual geometry for game use, but as design protos, they work well.

Thanks...and thanks for the comments.
