The port is not that easy | |

In Response To: Re: "Do or do not, there is no try" (stagnant) You should listen to the greg. He has the right attitude. But, to respond to your comment, the port is not trivial at all. First, the XBox is significantly different to code for... think about how you would write a game if you could ASSUME everyone running it owned a GeForce4 and a SB Audigy with surround sound, and that everyone was using a mouse and keyboard (no game controllers or joysticks), and that everyone was running the most recent version of XP with a 2Ghz processor and a gig of ram? That's kinda how it was to develop for the xbox - they pushed the game against the limits of a very powerful system. Now they've got to code a game that will work reliably on many platforms. Difficult. That's not all - they need to put in an entire multiplayer game, and make it good. And they need to update the single-player to still look impressive on the PC - this might mean regenerating models, at least making different detail settings.... soooo much to do, it boggles the mind. Also, the engine that ran on a mac in 98 was made from the myth engine. The current version of halo runs on an engine built from the ground up to do nothing but scream on an xbox. They've got to port an entire new engine, not just recompile the quakeIII engine with some new textures like everyone else. Be patient. They won't lie to us. Trust Bungie and only Bungie. |
