In Response To: more misc. blue beam speculation *SP* (Trey Ikon)

Just thought I'd put my own 2c into this discussion.

First off, Halo being remarkably like earth is nothing spectacular. All the worlds colonized by SolCore are remarkably similar to earth. Perhaps all livable worlds were created by the Forrunner, and therefore, all are nearly identical. Or perhaps the Forrunner modeled Halo after the worlds they saw most suitable for life.

Secondly, Seasons on the earth are not due to distance from the sun. You moving a few thousand miles further from the sun will produce no noticable change in relative tempature nor ambient radiation. Climate changes due to your relative position on the sphere towards the sun. If the sphere is tilted, as the earth is, it will have different radiation entry angles relative to the sun. Therefore, seasons are caused by a change in the legnth of the day due to a change in the relative position of your area as to the apogee of the sun, and a decrease in the angle of light entering the earths atmosphere caused by the same reasons. So its not that the earth gets futher from the sun in its orbit, nor that you move a few hundred miles northward arcoss it's surface; it's because part of the earth simply isn't receiving as much light and heat from the sun as it was previously. Other things, such as ocean currents and air flow also affect climate, although they are normally stable and follow the normal pattern of seasons.

Another thing to point out, if those blue pulses are plasma (they certainly appear to be) then the effect may be something realtively obvious to anyone who has completed the game. In order to control the diretion and dispersion of a plasma, you must have control over a field which affects it. Although gravitational, nuclear, and quantum fields all affect matter, magnetic fields are much easier to generate; and much easier to control. Magnetic fields also have the strange effect of creating electrons in certain situations. Rotating magnetic fields, as well as occilating magnetic fields have the effect known as EMP.

The MJOLNIR Mk.V armored suit uses a reactive cyrstaline metal for locamotion, it is likely that this is controled by electrical means. The M12 Warthog LRV also seems to use electrical servo-driven wheels; servos are especially vunerable to EMP because they become an induction coil, and would amplify electrical discharge of the EMP.

What this means is that, if the blue energy beam is plasma, the electro-magnetic field used to control its trajectory may interfere with the systems of your suit and you vehical. Notice that you do not die, and the vehical seems to restart shortly after the incident. I came to this conjecture after remembering the "Two beterayals" mission, in which a pulse generator is disrupted using an EMP.

Another thing to note, Halo was origionally to have slightly lower gravity than that of Earth. Due to some physics problems as well as game play issues, this feature was removed long long ago.

Anyone notice the strange, wyrthering fish on the "The Silent Cartographer" level? Just go under water and stare out to sea for a sec. Too bad we never got to see the animals =(

So long, and thanks for all the fish!
