Only for the sake of argument:

You actually only govern the battle aspect of the MC's actions, all of his non-battle choices are made by ??? - like his decision to trust 323 Guilty Spark or his choice not to sit down on the crashing life pod before the level "Halo." So, um, the governing brain is only part you (although clearly the player is in control when he decides to waste Keyes). Anyway, Cortana is perfectly capable of saying "the Chief's lost his mind" instead of "the chief is rampant" - I think tha this is worth noting down, right alond with 343 calling you the "Reclaimer" and other such plot stuff. Besides, who says I'm not a machine...
