In Response To: Re: Loftus, Fyrewulff, other Halo gurus... (RC Master) : Do you not notice how big the Elites and Hunters were in Reach? How much : bigger Jorge was? It made them more imposing. Honestly, I never noticed. The last time we fought Elites before Halo Reach was Halo 2, and with two Halo games in between them, I didn't remember how big they looked compared to me. The models change so drastically over time (tall, hunched over, stocky, thin) that if I ever did notice a difference in size I probably chalked it up to that. Now, I do remember feeling very short in ODST, I especially remember thinking Ghosts and Grunts were unusually large. But I'm sure Bungie changed the height difference more than just "a shade." It was a drastic change that I was supposed to notice. I appreciate that Bungie pays so much attention to their details that they even coded their player models to reflect the height difference between S-IIs and S-IIIs. But to my original question, why make such small changes (like 2% less running speed, slight difference in height) if it's not obvious, like in ODST? I guess just to say they were true to the canon, even if the only people that would know are themselves and hackers, which is a great reason, looking back on it. : Aim assist isn't just a linear thing. It gets quite complicated actually. I didn't mean to imply that the underlying code was just a single parameter that could be increased or decreased. I was talking about the high level, cumulative effect of the aim assist. The gameplay in certain Halo titles is more affected/impacted by aim assist than others, right? : I would conjecture, for example, that perhaps the Halo 2 Spartan models
Unless the hitboxes underneath didn't quite match-up with the models (like Halo 3's Elites), then the stockiness of the models is probably a factor.
