From my perspective, I think it likely has less to do with saving a few dollars on the size of the product and it has more to do with the target market that will buy it. Loftus represents a niche market. A replica or prop that that is 91% to scale might not bother you or I or prevent us from getting the product but for people like Loftus it's an all or nothing deal. Even if the item was 99% of the scale I would wager that he still wouldn't want it. *Maybe* if it was 99.999% :P For better or for worse, the products that he has available to him are going to based around what the unwashed masses like me will buy. I think what's really surprising is that Weta did it like that to begin with. They are usually much more meticulous about that stuff.
