In Response To: Re: On Set and BTS FUD scenes (bluerunner) : I kinda hope that they try to stay away from the CG route and do actual : costumes for the covies. Remember this elite? The problem I have with CG : characters is that I can tell they're CG. They've gotten better over the : years, but I still think nothing beats a real life model. Aye. CG is getting good enough today that it can compete with "real-stuff", but it still rarely captures all the nuances and little things that excellent costumes and models can grasp. I still think that the models and costumes of 2001: A Space Odyssey and the original Star Wars trilogy often beat out most of the new special effects I see today. They could do something like Thor did with the Frost Giants. CG for far-away views and then awesome prosthetics and costumes for up-close. (Just an example off the top of my head.) If this was Lord of the Rings or something years in the making, they could definitely try the CG route, but I think for a smaller project, use of "real-stuff" with a little CG for assistance is the best way to go.
