In Response To: Re: Forerunner City (fanart) (davidfuchs) : Do you have any links to the kinds of processes you use? I'm trying to get : proficient with a tablet but it's so counter-intuitive to me as a paper : guy and I'd rather freehand rather than just tracing over scans of my work : or whatnot. I've been thinking maybe I just need to find an approach that : meshes more with my own proclivities. I don't really have any links on hand, but just go to Vimeo or YouTube and type speedpaint. Vimeo is the best option here- it's not a bunch of hacks uploading their videos of them tracing promotional material. Also Vimeo allows you to watch people drawing speedpaintings in real-time, not just a sped up drawing. Still, there are good artists who upload videos regularly, such as idrawgirls. As for processes, I'm all over the place. Sometimes I do value first, or I block in shapes and color all at the same time. Sometimes I'll do a line drawing and then draw over it. Depends on what kind of drawing I'm doing, I guess. Going value-first is nice for really fast drawings without having to worry about color, but when you add color in later on, it can get messy (and in my opinion, the results aren't the best). However, when you're doing color to block in shapes, it can get a bit confusing unless you really know what you're doing. I usually don't know what I'm doing ahead of time though- things tend to be happy accidents with me.
