Now that you mention it, that infection form does look slightly different than the ones we know. And after I threw together the comparison image with the pure form's head, it's even easier to see how this could in fact be the Precursor.

I have slight doubts, due to the stylization present in the majority of Legends, but it's an interesting observation definitely worth keeping our eyes on...
