In Response To: Re: Like Bornstellar's personality changed? (jarsp) : I thought that that evolution of character was one of the highlights of : Cryptum. For me it made Bornstellar less dislikeable, amongst other : things. :( up to you I guess. old comment is kind of old Whatever. I hated it because Bornstellar was evolving perfectly fine without having the mutation shoved on him. He was growing and learning from his experiences just like a real person wou- BUT OH WAIT LET'S DO THIS FOR NO REASON. I probably won't read the rest of the series to find out, but, as of right now, there's really no reason for Bornstellar to assume Didact's identity. If Didact died and then Bornstellar did the mutation, I would be less angry. The Forerunners had no warrior type people, and Bornstellar would take the responsibility to defend his people. That would be an arc. This wasn't. It was just kind of random and forced on him. Worse than that though is that none of the characters react to it in a meaningful or understandable way. I can kind of dismiss his family for not caring that he's a totally different person, because they were kind of douche bags, but the fact that Bornstellar thinks it's perfectly normal bothers me. And Librarian's reaction is absolutely unforgivable. No one would be OK with their loved one being replaced by someone else. The terminals in Halo 3 gave the impression that they were a very close couple who had been through a lot. And the first half of Cryptum kind of furthered this. But their relationship that I knew about through the terminals was ruined because, in reality, Librarian and Didact had actually known each other for like two months at the time of those communications. I understand that the Forerunners are like weird space people who do retarded things like this, but I still need to be able to relate to them in order to care about what they're going through. And I can't relate to having my personality completely changed by a machine or whatever. If Didact isn't actually dead then I guess I'm whining for no reason. I just don't understand why the author decided to do this to Bornstellar. Maybe I missed some key element, but the whole thing seemed pointless to me.
