In Response To: Re: Like Bornstellar's personality changed? (scarab) : Why did you come to dislike him less after Didact took over his body? : My impression was that Bornstellar didn't realize that he was going to become

: If he was an innocent dupe then maybe you can pity him and therefore dislike
: Or you could just rejoice that he's gone and therefore dislike him less. : But what is your reason? I'm pretty sure he didn't know that he was going to become Didact's substitute, just that before the mutation he was generally quite aloof and condescending but after it he became less so. I guess I can empathise with him more when he's not insulting my species :P (Well, not just humans, he also discriminates against the lower rates, but after the mutation not so much). Also the part nearing the end of the book, while he was in the ship, when someone (sorry, Forerunner names don't stick in my head >_<) tried to dispute his authority but was rapidly put down when it was pointed out that he had the Didact in his head and hence had a higher standing than everyone else, that felt great. It was nice for Bornstellar to be in charge of things for a change, rather than being pushed around. I don't think the Didact suspected it to happen that way though, as he seems quite uninformed about the librarian's intentions throughout the course of the novel. In my opinion, I don't think Born totally gave up his personality at the end though, but rather he fused it into the Didact's own. If he did give it up altogether, then, wow, that's really... surreal. I guess we'll only know in the next book.
