I'd go simpler first but I get the gist of your idea. I think it's playable.

I'd start with pre-placed buildings which can be despawned by the bomb. When an opposing team destroys all of your buildings, they win.

Your idea seems sound. If only we knew what effect MEGALO had on simpler gameplay than the Chess game.
