Remember from First Strike, Master Chief starts out being pretty single-minded about getting back to the operation and has to be talked out of it. I figured that as far as the Chief is concerned, the mission isn't over until it's completed. It may be on hold pending greater concerns, but there is no aborting.

But yes, the idea is to include shout outs and such when it makes sense, to tie the first game back into the universe that exploded out with Halo 2.

For example, the SpecOps Elite at the end of the level is Zuka 'Zamamee from The Flood. He'll have no lines or subplot, but you'll be able to recognize him a couple times throughout the campaign, leading an ambush and then escaping at the last minute.
