In Response To: Re: Halo and Philosophy book soon? (Miguel Chavez) : Ridiculous. There's plenty of meat in Halo that a student of philosophy could : use as a springboard to touch on some interesting metaphysical topics. : Dare I say one could have a field day exploring allegories re: religion : and literature in Halo as well. (duh!) You can use any fictional construct as a mechanism for exploring any number of philosophies, though. I think what Cody is saying is that within similar texts, like the Matrix book he mentions, the author is suggesting that the exploration of the philosophical concepts exists *within the primary work itself*-- in this case, the Matrix or Halo. I think if the work was honest about using popular culture as a method for exploring philosophy, rather than suggesting that popular culture itself is, by authorial intent, exploring these philosophies, everybody would feel better about it. :)
