Not for me myself, I was actually quite happy with how the story aspects came out, especially the intro and outro. Having never done anything like that before, it was pretty ambitious from my point of view and it came out better than I expected
What I mean is most of the critiques people have given (not that there are many) have focused on there being a story and that it would be better without one.
Despite my nature to focus on the negative things, at the same time I know some have said the incorporation of a story strengthened it.
It'll mean more to some people over others as well. For Etoli and IccaRa, there are some details here and there that only we would catch.

As for the formation bit, well, the initial plan for all that was to perform the Missing Man Formation which would have formed part of the outro in regard to Noble 6's ultimate fate.
But not only was time lacking (Youtube 11 minute limit), but the playspace in that level is surprisingly small given what you're flying. Not really noticeable in normal gameplay, but the enemy AI seems to have been designed to keep you in a small area as much as anything else.
Screenshots are easy enough, but a small play space and the lack of camera control during Game play in Reach make it a far more tricky proposition than it needed to be.
