: Hopefully not as bad as the Pelican bit =p (for the average joe at least).
: That was really just aimed at a different kind of audience though with the
: airshow feel, I knew it was never really going to be for everyone. Or the
: whole thing itself with the general lack of boom, which is partly what
: this was to address.

: Probably would have been exhausting to keep it an entirely hectic pace all
: the way through. Granted it is long, longer than I intended. I didn't want
: to just rattle straight through the 'interviews', then have action, then
: the intro kind of seemed neccessery. It just grew and grew.

: Its absolutely self indulgent and to my own tastes, I'll admit that from the
: start, so that's why its a bit of a slower build up to the finale with
: music kicking in.
: Top Gear doesn't always have a hyperactive camera. =)
: My fav parts tend to be the challenges rather than the car reviews.

: Otherwise, its not the most flexible part of the game to work with.
: The fly-cam is too slow, even on the fastest settings, to really keep up with
: the flying, which makes a dynamic chase view difficult. Pan-cam isn't an
: option for a video capture because the screen is covered in numbers (hell,
: some of the shots in the last part have been sped up in editing, and I cut
: a lot that was just a bit too mundane as I tweaked it).
: So basically did the best with my limited ability and the tools available.
: I'd have loved if I could attach the camera to different parts of the
: fighters, like if one was mounted on the wing tip or tail, like in the cut
: scenes.
: I'd have also loved if I could have taken control of the Seraphs and
: Banshee's to make them far more dynamic and have scenes of them chasing
: Sabres, then throw in some cuts and edits to make it looks like they'd
: been outmanoeuvred and destroyed.

I think my disappointment with the Pelican was more the frontpage advertising of fantastic formation flying and stuff...and maybe because of having flown Pelicans in Halo CE. This was much better, but what I'm getting at is similar.

I understand the need for a slower buildup for the payoff, otherwise it'll be like an all out action flick that is so unrelentingly intense it's awful. It could just use a bit more ebb and flow, even in the slower parts. For example the AC0 Knights of the Round Table trailer had kind of a slow intro too, but the action cuts sprinkled between the character clips were satisfying (if not a bit much)...or like the TG Ford Fiesta review - intentionally mundane beginning with a bit of humor to maintain interest before the epic conclusion. And the camera wasn't that crazy in that segment at all save for the Corvette mall chase.

I don't mean a high speed hyperactive camera (Reach can only do so much, and camera control is no easy feat), it's just that the initial combat shots didn't feel very action-y and weren't as smooth, but if you were going for a calmer intro-mood I couldn't feel it either. I guess that's what I'm getting at with the first half - I'm not really understanding or feeling what you're trying to convey. The second half was clearly to show his prowess, but I couldn't really see the point of the first. Besides the dialogue it didn't really forward the story for me.

Maybe if it was even a little more vague - battle in the distance, more frenetic Demon Lord-related radio chatter, some clips of everything going on amidst the battle like crappy AI Sabres, that can be compared with hints of DL's Sabre's crazy moves. First you're left guessing "Who is this guy?" "Where is he?" "That one pilot looks like he knows what he's doing...is that him?" building up to "Okay this guy is pretty good...I think he's the one" and then final interview and awesome mode. Put the viewer into the narrator's shoes some more. You could have made it as long as you'd want, just keep the viewer hooked and wanting to find out more by visually supplementing the story.

At the same time though, all that chatter was also a bit distracting, especially when they sounded excited about something when not much was going on (i.e. "That was incredible!" as he just lazily follows a Banshee and tosses a few rounds at it).

I think a bit more post-prod shenanigans would have worked too, like slow-mo when the Sabre and Banshee cross paths and speeding up for pursuits.

I'm getting way to long-winded and picky about something entirely aesthetically subjective here..don't get me wrong, it was still a great piece of work.

(Also, sorry if I'm not making much sense, it's kinda late...)
