In Response To: Re: Thoughts on AAs (esp. Bubble Shield and Hologr (Stephen L. (SoundEffect)) : I wonder how tactical it will end up being? When I play matchmaking, most : combatants, including myself, are jumping and changing directions a lot. A : hologram will move at (I presume) a uniform pace in a straight line with : no jumping. Without seeing it in action, I'm inclined to think they may be : painfully obvious on the battlefield. I agree, it probably will be fairly easy to spot a hologram if you take the time to notice how it's walking in a straight line. I can imagine it won't be as useful in levels like Blood Gulch where most of the encounters are medium to long range, where you'd have time to pick your shots. ...but if you're inside a room and someone walks in the door from outside, you're not going to take 2 seconds to determine that it's a hologram, you're going to start firing immediately, which gives the other guy an advantage if you have to reload. Rocket campers with twitchy fingers are going to waste their first shot on a hologram as soon as it comes around a corner. People using the Grenade Launcher are going to die reloading when the real enemy follows his hologram into a room. And even the situation from the Deja View level will work well for the hologram. Sure, the sniper might quickly determine it's a hologram he's shooting at, but that split second of doubt might be enough to allow his target to escape in the opposite direction (especially if he, too, is walking in a straight line and not jumping).
