Are we really sure that's the PR?

It looks to me like the "Plasma rifle" featured there is a two handed weapon. OK...I'm fine with the change if that's truly the Plasma Rifle.

However, if you look at some of the older screenshots, you see the ORIGINAL Plasma rifle being used.

You see that this Elite is using the original PR, and is using one hand to wield it. Whereas the Elites holding the newer weapon are using two hands.

That somewhat lessens the idea of it simply being a placeholder, but it doesn't eliminate this possibility. In fact, I'm going to say that that's what I think it is. Just the final version of the PR.

Yet...Perhaps its not. Perhaps its like the AR is to the SMG. The PR is a one handed weapon, is less accurate, but very fast. And this new weapon is slower, more accurate and more powerful. Or some difference like that.
