In Response To: Re: Warning - do not open halo 3 image "im on fire (sharpsniper99) : cant rrod be caused by a graphical problem within the xbox itself, i seem to : remember my friend's xbox getting rrod because of a problem with his : graphics card rather than overheating (screen went all green after a while : rather than freezing which is the normal symptom) Honestly, I had some of the same ideas in my head when I was first looking into this. RRoD is just the Xbox's output for a hardware failure. The reason why you get RRoD when your power cable is loose is because the hardware isn't getting enough power. The main culprit is the GPU. From what I know, and have researched on this, there isn't software that can destroy hardware without you assisting it in some way (IE - rebooting when it asks you to) because it can't change the firmware. Booting you offline suddenly could cause undesired side-effects that may lead to RRoD, but not directly cause it.
