This type of thing causing RRoD is, in practice, impossible.

The RRoD is caused by overheating of the GPU which separates it from the motherboard. In order for a file, or software to cause this it would require a system reboot first. (Basically change the firmware to allow faster RPM's on the processor)

If people are getting RRoD when this happens, it is probably because they were about to get it anyways and being booted offline put them over the edge.
