Thanks for the post Butcher! : the AI can drive all the vehicles except the warthog... if you think about : it, it's much harder to write AI that can handle turning angles, sliding : around corners, the danger of flipping while cornering at high speeds and : things like that. another big problem is that if the jeep comes to a halt : somewhere, it may require you to back up and execute a three-point turn or : something in order to head in a new direction. that requires significant : changes to the movement logic (which ordinarily assumes that a driver can : move in any direction at any time). : ferrex and ruiner did spend some time playing around with scripted and : autonomous AI warthogs but even small variations in the game world : (hitting a jump slightly wrong, sliding around a turn too fast, running : over an enemy who was too slow to get out of the way) would gradually : build up and cause the bobs to flip the jeep and get spilled out, spin out : and lose their way, or ram into obstacles (such as the player!). it was : hysterical but just not solid enough to rely upon - so there is nowhere in : the game that this takes place any more. : plus, it's so much fun for the player to drive the warthog that it seemed : almost unfair to take that away. and the bobs are much better gunners than : you anyway. ;) : - butcher
