It's really impossible to say this. You're telling him he doesn't want what he thinks he wants. Perhaps he-- and others-- were mostly interested in CTF and deathmatch-style games against computer controlled opponents, since they don't expect to be able to play against other human players because their friends won't have Xboxen, and the Xbox version will (at least at launch) lack Internet multiplayer. All the things lots of us are looking forward to, like the single player campaign-- are of no interest to others, and it won't matter how good Bungie has made it, some will disregard the game for that reason.
