Oh, sorry to disappoint you, but the backgrounds were added in.
The short version, er, smoke and mirrors to make things pretty.

Its the Tsavo Highway cruiser, but in order to make it stitch and blend together correctly, I had to crop each shot and delete the background.
Unlike a normal panoramic, this wasn't taken by putting the camera in one place and sweeping it (right stick) from left to right etc. That just won't work with something as large as the cruiser without 'lens' distortion etc. The fisheye effect.
So I had to 'strafe' the camera along the entire length to try and keep the perspective right, taking anything between 35 and 50 shots which had to be individually adjusted, cropped, background deleted, before even attempting to build a panoramic.
If I didn't, it would attempt to match the ship AND background, which was differing in each shot because of the distances, and you got a blurred mess.
And even then the results aren't perfect. Just the best I could do.

So rather than have no background at all, or JPEG white, I used some screens I had already taken of just the backgrounds and added them in behind the cruiser layer.
