In Response To: Re: Anyone seen this? Weirdness on Sandtrap *longi (Spartan Jag) : Interesting... how did your verify this? Are you sure it wasn't a secondary : explosion/lag delay/etc? : And I highlighted the S because it's a happy letter and deserves
: - Jag : *people in the thread spelled it with a z. No, it definitely wasn't a secondary explosion. Somehow while building a map on Sandtrap, one of the Mongoose's spawn points appeared on the very edge of the map, way further than the invisible barrier. We're not quite sure how exactly it got there, but the spawn point for the Mongoose was a good 15 feet in the air and the Mongoose would spawn, fall down, explode due to the mines, and respawn again. Anyway, we had invested a decent amount of time in the map and didn't want to re-start building it, so we tried very hard to delete it. We ended up trying to push a teleporter receiver node past the invisible barrier which meant having to deal with the mines a lot. In Monitor mode we were 'invincible' and had full overshields to help us survive as long as possible. Psychophan7 kept saying there were 'tracer rounds' hitting him and killing him. I kept telling him it was the mines. He insisted. Adding the frustration of trying to survive the mines, adding the teleporter, and me not believing him, he finally went into theater mode and captured a short clip showing it to me. It appeared exactly as the screenshots Burr has posted. My best guess is that the likelihood of seeing these 'lasers' increases the closer to the edge of the invisible barrier you get. Since most people who reach that invisible barrier aren't standing still, it's not very likely people would notice easily. Perhaps they were originally intended to take out flying vehicles but when the idea was scrapped, instead of removing it from the code it was just easier to reduce the area in which the lasers would be effective. So, rather than the lasers taking out anything from 0 - 100 feet in the air, it was changed to 0 - 10 feet. *shrug* It could be a lot of things I guess, but the definitely still do damage. -SR
