Sandtrap Guntowers. | |

In Response To: posted too soon -whoops (FyreWulff) : Actually, I have a theory about this now that I came up with after hitting : post. Perhaps in an early version of Sandtrap, instead of getting mine'd : to death, the towers would laser you. But then they maybe wanted fast : vehicles to be able to survive out there, so they put the mines in, and : the Forerunner Laser was thought to have been rid of. Remember when the Beta was hacked? They found object tags on Sandtrap that were called "Covenant Gun Towers." There was also a Multiplayer Preview in a Canadian (around the time of Permutation Announcments). They mentioned that the Towers on Shrine(or whatever the Old Sandtrap name was) held a nasty surprise if you got to close to them. Bungie mentioned many times that they were going to use Snow-bound like agressive kill borders on many maps. In my infinite wisdom, at the time, I put 2 & 2 together and came up with a theory that the Towers would shoot you down if you got close/out of bounds, the way they did on Snowbound. They were bigger (Tower-sized) because Shrine was a vehicle based map. So they'd have to be heavier firepower, and possibly faster delivery. I'm guessing they changed it mid-way through development, and never got rid of the structures because they added flavor and made for an interesting skyline. Would explain the eggs some too, because something would actually have to generate the shots, even if they're untextured place-holder orbs.
