In Response To: Halo 3 Soundtrack Website (Ross Mills)
While it's nice to revisit the old classics in a fuller and richer form, it's kinda discouraging that Marty didn't craft more original music. I mean, apart from the forgettable techno ambiance tracks, the vast majority of the pieces are simple rehashings of the previous soundtracks. I'm hesitant to even call them remixes, since so many of them sound like the exact same recording with some extra layers thrown on.
Again, not that it's a bad soundtrack, it's just that I figured this go-round would be more like Halo 2 -- much of the score echoing and elaborating on past works, while being rounded out with many striking and memorable new pieces. Tracks like Leonidas, In Amber Clad, Heavy Price Paid, and Mombasa Suite made the H2 OST for me. There were a couple like those for Halo 3 (Farthest Outpost and Greatest Journey are pretty much it, to my ears), but not nearly enough. It's too bad Marty didn't feel that was the way to go in the last game in the trilogy...
Also, kinda random, but did anybody else think the track Three Gates sounded like a jazz band cover of the Delta Halo Suite? :P
(And yes, that one guest track is a crime of "Never Surrender" proportions...)
