In Response To: Top 5 most over hyped games. (chewpathingy)

"It's not that Halo 2 was bad, heck no. And the multiplayer component still stands as one of the best examples of online play on a console. But was it five-star good? No. The single-player campaign was underwhelming, the segments spent playing as the alien Arbiter weren't as much fun as Master Chief's bits and the game's cliffhanger ending felt like robbery."

Obviously this guy hasn't had a taste of "online play" recently. I think he's entirely wrong about the Arbiter/Chief levels. A quick recap:

Close quarters fighting with a bit of low gravity: fun. Urban CQC with intermediate bitch-snipes followed by an excessive amount of driving: almost fun (Jackals and vehicular expanses, not fun). Long range tank action with intermediate-long rang combat: fun (Scarab... Hah!). Medium range combat followed by vehicular expanse followed by medium range combat: Fun (sans vehicles and Jackals). CQC with a dash of medium range (and Jackal snipers, ugh) and a little bit of aerial thwarting, then followed by even more CQ/MR combat: fun (Regret...) Excessive running and monotonous locales with combat here and there: not fun. More of the monotonous level design but in the dark: not fun.

Close quarters combat or subterfuge followed by brief (or extended) aerial combat: fun. CQC in an elevator with the Flood followed by intermediate combat and an overly cliche boss: Mostly fun (elevator too long and boss is designed poorly). Repetitive level design with falling into darkness and Flood: Slightly fun (Arbiter go down the hole...). Optional Flood combat poured upon vehicular expanse with a break of CQC and far too much waiting: Slighty fun (Flood in tanks?). Running and subterfuge before CQC and a tedious vehicular sequence: Fun until you see any combination of a brute, a ghost, and/or traversable expanse (within normal level bounds). Vehicular combat before CQC before the same vehicular combat (in the air, presumably) followed by Tartarsauce: Only fun when inside (but not during the boss fight).

My call? The Arbiter is more fun because he gets more close-quarters combat with intelligent enemies that want him gone. The best part about that? The Arbiter has the option of getting the first strike. (See The Arbiter, Oracle, Uprising, Great Journey.) Master Chief only get Cairo Station, part of Outskirts and Metropolis, some of Delta Halo, most of Regret, and the beginning of Gravemind. More levels, less content, too many Jackals sniping.

And then on the next page there's acclaim for BioShock... Oh, the irony...
