Comparing third and first person shooters.

Isn't the camera much closer to textures in a FPS? Maybe even twice as close? I think that, with the exception of the unfinished water effects, the beta for Halo 3 looks very good in 3rd person mode. The warthog on the beach looked amazing. (Or maybe we should all judge shooters based on what the textures look like at point blank range, through a maximum zoom sniper scope?)
