Perhaps if it entered faster? Like you said, human ships force their way in. Less sitting there rippling, more entering slipspace. I already have a nice, sort of portal effect for Covenant ships. The same thing larid uses for Halo: Unyealding in fact.

P.S. Although the ship and the flare were done in Lightwave, most of the cool stuff was done in After Effects.
