Interesting points.

Actually, I think with the graphic novel, Bungie showed that they are interested in embracing various styles, and probably not limiting that liberty to that medium.

The importance of consistency paramount, as far as I am concerned. Style, art, timeline (at what time does a particular story in the Halo universe occur), medium (game, comic, novel, movie etc. etc.), game genre: all of these are a distant second in importance to attending to consistency.

If Bungie expends effort on keeping all the stories as consistent as possible (though they may make errors because the canon is growing so large), and it would appear they are doing so, then go for it. Let others who are excellent in their own area (e.g., Ensemble) run with the IP. If, however, care isn't taken, as regards consistency, then eventually, it will be a Star Trek: Enterprise thing.

In the meantime, Halo Wars has got me excited because it takes place in the universe that first drew me to Halo - simple war between aliens and men, in space.
