In Response To: How many beastie sounds? (rockslider) I don't post here much but after hearing the sounds I wanted to add my two cents. I agree that some of these do sound a lot like the whale cries from Star Trek The Motion Picture, a few of the later sounds though remind of something else. The last 3 sounds in the file posted here are far different from the whale sounds, the middle one of these sounds familiar to me. Listen to the 2nd of these last 3, then go play Starcraft as the Zerg. This second sound is much like some of the Zerg, I think it sounds most like the Zerg flyer. : Well, there's a whole menagerie down there by the sound of it. The beastie : cry I had in mind was the long deep resonant one that sounds like it's : coming from something pretty big. 'Haunting', like the broadcast says. But : there's also a wolf-like howl and some shrill horse-like sounds, which I : take to be coming from other types of beastie. I've spent a while : listening and I reckon there's upwards of a dozen cries you could record, : including at least 3 for Suzie's beastie. How many sounds have you got? : The horse-like sounds are reminiscent of some whale-related sounds in that : Star Trek movie. I can't recall the movie having deep sounds like Suzie's : beastie though; those whales were pretty shrill as far as I remember. : I think I might write something about all this for my level 3 fun page. I : could try to describe the sounds better and describe where best to stand : around to hear them. Sort of a level 3 safari guide! All-inclusive package : tour. Grunt repellant not included.
