I left the Hunters alone and walked back to the area : where you see the first health pack. There are two Shade turrets on top of : a small raised area, if you stand where the Red Elite comes out from, you : should hear the beastie sounds. : I think you will only hear the beastie sounds on Legendary setting. But I think you can hear them on any difficulty, as my brother plays on Easy, and he's heard them.
