Re: UPDATE: cortana.org

In Response To: UPDATE: cortana.org (black flag and a red star)

: The End is The Beginning...
: They are staunch...

As the front page says, this appears to be a jab at people who do not accept these messages as authentic.

: You obviously don't understand - You are the little girl lost. In a sense, WE
: are the little girl lost.

A quick hop to Amazon.com reveals a book named "Little Girl Lost"- the story of Drew Barrymore's unhappy childhood. Probably not what Cortana has in mind. The phrase does seem familiar to me in a science-fictiony context, I'll see what else I can come up with.

: YOU are Lyca.

Unlike several of the other letters, this one is not addressed to anyone in particular. Remembering that Cortana is part of a game, could she be speaking to the player(s) in general? Elsewhere, Lyca appears as one who is cooperating with Cortana, perhaps unwillingly. Could this be the role the player is meant to take in Cortana's game? It is not unlike the role of the Marathon Marine, especially with the references to a common enemy farther down.

: Destiny ... what a trite concept.

Cross over the walls, eat the path... More similarities to the wierder parts of Marathon Infinity.

: You take for granted that your Star and your Moon are of an equal size when
: you stare into the night sky. You must find the meaning ... the Moon here
: ... and he Knew. Find your path, Lyca. There is a little girl lost and if
: you would only search ... you can find her.

AFAIK, it is a known astronomical coincidence that the sun and moon have the same apparent diameter to an observer standing on Earth. Is Cortana saying that this is deliberate? In which case Earth may have been severely meddled with by a powerful entity (one who could easily move planets) sometime in its early history.

: Out of the abyss of emotions come a thousand creations.

Consider rampancy. A rampant AI becomes much larger, much smarter, and much wilier. Melancholia, Anger, Jealousy. Is rampancy a side effect (or even a direct result or cause) of an AI acquiring emotions? A rampant AI has far more potential than a... non-rampancy one.

: I have seen the horrible consequences
: of transformation.

At least this is consistent with the above, if tenuously linked.
