Halo Not Made By Bungie(?)

Alright, this subject does sound weird, but it doesn't make me feel the greatest in way I don't understand.
Ok, I was reading the october 2k issue of Macaddict and I noticed that Peter Tampte's new company will be porting microsoft's games to mac. Now, this is cool, but when I saw that he'd Also be porting Halo to the Mac I was a bit discouraged. Halo is now being considered a port? It did begin on the mac and pc in the first place, am I right? Not only this, but is this going to take away from that Bungie feel and expertise in making the game (not that I'm doubting Peter Tampte and crew's capability)? I really don't know what's all involved when porting a game, but what are we going to miss out on since it's not actually Bungie making it?
