No offense to you, but this post reminds me of a long forum thread over at Hatrack.com (Orson Scott Card's official website... he's the guy that wrote Ender's Game, among other things).

Ender's Game is a popular sci-fi book by Orson Scott Card. Lately, he himself has been writing the screenplay for an upcoming movie adaptation of the novel. A guy comes onto the forum and posts something which basically says, "Let me write the screenplay instead. I feel confident in my ability. I feel confident that I'm a great writer. I think I can do a better job with this than you can, even though it's your story."

Now, the Hatrack forums are unbelievably mature compared to the HBO forum. Everyone that replied to this replied seriously and asked the original poster to give qualifications as to why he thought he was better-suited to writing the screenplay than Card himself. At first, his replies went something along the lines of, "My writing speaks for itself". As more people challenged him to put up some evidence, he eventually stated, "I've written two screenplays and one is being made into a major motion picture. I can't tell you anything more about that right now."

Eventually, Orson Scott Card's own son posted to the thread, and in a very polite and thorough post, told the original poster to try something else. The guy comes back in and tells Mr. Card that he doesn't know what he's talking about and doesn't recognize true writing genius when he sees it, at which point pretty much everyone begins to disregard his posts.

Now, here is the killer: Why did the original poster think so highly of his writing?

because

he typed

just like this

all

the time.

i guess

i can't understand

the true genius

of a man

with carriage returns

and lowercase letters.

Anyway, this is probably all irrelevant. Bottom line: If you apply for the job and don't get it, go somewhere else, or start your own company.
