Re: Now that we have the Swahili translations...

In Response To: Re: Now that we have the Swahili translations... (Sep7imus [subnova])

: I just wanted to point out that these three are all related somehow, though
: they contradict each other, sort of. They allhave to do with something
: being done to itself (fire fighting fire, doctor curing himself, barber
: cutting his own hair). But, they seem to contradict, since one says it
: DOES work and the others say it can't/doesn't.

: This one is particularly intriguing, obviously, since it doesn't sound like a
: real proverb and so may have some significance. As Narcogen said, much
: will depend on the meaning(s) of Maji.

: -Sep7imus

" The lion that goes quietly is the one who eats meat."

This could be a possible reference to the flood, who have until now only hidden in the shadows until being found. They never attack anyone, unlike Humans and Covenant, who actively (and loud/violently) look for it. The quiet/passive flood wait for their victims, and as we've seen on both Halos, completely overtake them.

As for the three proverbs, each one could be an obscure reference to the three races.

Fire fights fire- Probably a Covenant referance for their civil war, in which both of the sides, although of the same "collective", are fighting each other.

Doctor can't cure himself- humanity can't save itself without some sort of help

Barber can't cut his own hair- gravemind/ flood can't get off of halo. i picked this one for the flood because the tentacles of gravie's remind me of hair. ;)

As for the Old Man Maji(water) thing...could it be that John fell into the water and that was where Gravemind rescued him? We see later on that Gravemind has conned John and Cortana, and plans to repair In Amber Clad to most likely infect more and more species and grow. (Tomorrow you will be beaten with a stick.)
