In Response To: Re: It still doesn't make sense though.... (ErraticAuto) : The sentinels CAN contain the Flood, if there isn't a source of new bodies
As long as there aren't any bodies, yeah, the Sentinels can contain the Flood. however, the Flood shouldn't even be released or awakened without sentient beings with enough calcium to nourish them. Once that happens, they create Combat Forms. As as both Halo and Halo 2 have shown, combat forms are a bit tougher to handle than infection forms. But then, why develop Sentinels in the first place? Why not have much more capable weapons systems to contain combat forms? Perhaps the Forerunner didn't have such weapon systems themselves. It may be that they didn't have the ability or mentaility to develop weapons that could contain the Flood. I may be going off on a tangent here, but I've been considering the possibility that the forerunner could have been like the Covenant, having a warrior race protecting them. The Forerunenr are the Prophets, and this warrior race is their Elites. My suspicion is that this warrior race was humans, aka Reclaimers. They did the fighting, while the Forerunner did the thinking. Reclaimers did all the miltary stuff while the forerunners did the non-cmbat duties. However, the Flood manage to get released, and the Reclaimers fail to stop the Flood. As they are consumed, the Forerunner must fend for themselves, and thus use their knowledge to construct weapon systems to the best of their ability to contain the Flood. These weapons are the Sentinels and Enforcers. These are far from perfect weapons, because the Reclaimers may not have been able to design them, but they fulfill the role of beating back infection forms, which is all they are really needed to do. If there's an outbreak on the Halos, reclaimers are sent in to take the index and activate the Halos. The Sentinels, I suspect, are intended only to assist the Reclaimers and keep the Flood at bay long enough to succeed at activating that Halo. There are likely holes in this theory, so feel free to pump it full of Scorpion shells. XD Criticism is the building blocks on the road to perfection, I believe. |
