In Response To: Resolving First Strike/Halo 2 story issues (Red Loser) : I'll add in a bit of speculation based on the Staten interview. Maybe the : Covenant released the Flood to trigger the firing of Halo. Probably not : correct, but it's a thought. "After exhausting every other strategic option, my creators activated the rings. They, and all additionaly sentient life in 3-radii of the galactic center, died, as planned" -343- (from 'Delusions and Grandeur') You say "Maybe the Covenant released the Flood..." Question: If everyone died from Halo firing, who came along and "contained" the Flood, as to specific installations on the ring (Think back to the level 343 Guilty Spark). Halo is designed to "contain" the Flood. I'm starting to think that everyone has mistaken what "contain" really means. When Halo fires, it contains the SPREAD of the Flood, not the Flood themselves. Think about it: Halo fires, everyone dies, Flood goes about their business. But in the absense of a host, they go dormant, until more unlucky guests arrive. The Covenant didn't release the Flood. The Flood just woke up when the Covies explored areas where they were sleeping. -Geary-
