I don't think they'd be half as annoying from a 3rd-person perspective. Their main trick was to haunt areas with narrow corridors and lots of vision-obstructing columns, then come right up behind you when your attention was occupied by some larger enemy. But if you could always see even a small radius of space around you, it would be a lot easier to whirl and whip out the ol' TOZT (and did the wasps ever deserve anything less painful?)

There's no story-related reason why we wouldn't see any of the Pfhor slave races. Just as rival Earth countries use similarly designed guns (sometimes from the same manufacturer,) assorted would-be galaxy conquerors like the Pfhor or the Covenant may drop by the same planet looking for interesting life forms to breed and use in war. They could kidnap and breed separate populations of wasps or Hulks or hounds/lookers (almost as annoying as the wasps, IMO). No S'pht, though, since they possess a collective consciousness and would all be aware if the Covenant had abducted a few of their number.
