I think the Hulks are not genetically related to the Pfhor, but a low-tech race enslaved by them. Your conclusion is still valid though as the only place you'd find Hulks is among Pfhor. No Pfhor, no hulks.

MADDs I think we'll be seeing more of, or at least something similar (autonomous friendly combatants). Earth had their technology before the launch of the Marathon, and they would certainly be included on any ship heading into hostile territory.
