I remember some years ago (I guess around the time Marathon 2 was coming out) when I used to surf the Bungie AOL boards that a similar discussion came up.

Some of us got to thinking about the possibility of a Marathon movie; a fair number of people stopped discussing the game and wound up only talking about what actors we'd prefer for the roles.

Someone from Bungie (I think it was Matt or Doug - cannot be sure as this happened so long ago) came by and made it clear how unlikely this would be. His main points (again, as I recall several years later):

1. Difficulty in securing resources

(With Jobs and Pixar as allies, maybe not that big of a deal)

2. Potential audience

(Such a movie would have limited appeal beyond Marathoners)

3. Integrity of the story

(Bungie does not want their stories bastardized by some damn movie company executive)

4. Time involved

(Should Bungie spend its time making games or babysitting screenwriters - maybe Hamish would volunteer?)

I think Bungie is busy enough. As interesting as it might be, I doubt there is much truth to this rumor. (Then again, quite a bit has changed since M2 was being developed).
