You're reading too much into it. While they ARE rewriting much of it from the ground up, it's more a reflection of problems behind the scenes you couldn't see in the demo that they want to work properly in the final game. It doesn't mean at all that the end result in terms of grahpics etc. will be any less than what was shown.
