People have built fox holes and trenches since the begining of history, they thought them rather practical, however coming out underneath your enemies might have its drawbacks, however that is no reason not to let a player do it. The fewer artificial limits their are on gameplay the better, if you want to do something stupid than do it, you may end up dead or a hero, just like in the real world. What do you think people thought of columbus sailing west off the edge of the world? I am not very enthusiastic about super real games, but reality does have its good bits. One of them is absolute freedom, you can do whatever you want, there are consequnces of course, but you can do anything you want you may die in the process of doing, be arrested locked up or beaten by an angry mob but its your choice, there isn't an invisible hand guiding your actions and making sure that you don't do something silly. Of all the things I hate in games being patronized is the worst.
Desio
Wake up and smell the freedom.
