I agree with your arguments, but the phrase "populations (already way too large for sustainability) rising dramatically" is slightly off, so to speak. If you've read New Scientist for the past six months or so (can't remeber what issue) or perhaps heard about it some other way, you would have found thát the UN has altered its forecasts about population increases. The population of our world will increace until 2050 and then steadily decreace for at least hundered years.
As for your other arguments, they are IMHO actually an argument FOR space exploration and colonisation! To quote from the Mars trillogy
"Intelligent life is far too precious for it to be on only one planet"
or something.
This was probably one of the resons the colony ship Marathon was sent out!
