Yes. Very good point. So the BAT would have been designed to defeat the warmachines of enemies known to the UESC. The turret-mounted machine gun (and the manually aimed gun) would still be effective against slow-moving, low altitude craft. What would they be? Helicopters and gunships, as well as low-altitude bombers like the A-10 (somewhat relevant note: a French anti-runway bomb meant to be released from a low altitude is named the 'Durandal'). We haven't seen any human aircraft yet, but it's pretty likely that at least one of these kinds of aircraft will be in their arsenal. Since it requires less angular velocity to track high-flying objects, the hypothetical unwieldliness of the BAT's turret wouldn't affect the effectiveness of the FLAK cannon very much.
Maybe I haven't read the newly released 'history' carefully enough, but it seems to me that there's still some 'gray area' between the time the Terrans and the Covenant made first contact, and the great war. Was there time for the humans to study Covenant technology? If so, did they have time to design and build countermeasures?
