What would people like? I suppose most of aren't that much of designers, but they at least have a good idea of what a nice style should be. Personnaly I'm in the middle of playing American Mc Gee's Alice, which is VERY stylish. But quite psychedelik, and i'm not so sure it wouldbe easier on the eyes of people than any other possible theme. It would be like having images in the borders, close-ups of BOB eyes, blue uniforms tainted with dark oozy yellowish-brown blood stains, deformed, erratic Phor as you would see them through a fisheye vision enhancer..., in the back-ground you'd have a black-and-white tileset, remeniscent of the asylum cells where you really are, still dreaming your madness, a cyborg, and electric sheep.
The menus, on the left, might be toughened a little too... Put some images on them! Make different sort-outs of the stories: by Name, author, date, ... Maybe add synopsises. Maybe add a forum-type user review of stories: allow people to say what they think of the stories (à la Fileball.net) Make them reddish-brown, tainted red when clicked.
Im a total looser when it comes to html, but is it possible to have different styles to a same page, and randomly pick one up? You could have different tylesets, say one for every texture set in Marathon, or places in the trilogy: The ancient S'pht citadel on L'howon; the Marathon, Jarro stations, waterloo waterpark, L'howon's heatened core etc... If so, can you have some kind of "user preferences" where every user can choose his favorite... That would be fun.
