Another thing I didn't mention in my summary was Durandal. We barely spend any time with him (Infinity almost feels more like a story about Tycho), but from what we see of him he is a very different character than the other games.
In Infinity, there is none of the megalomaniacal, wild ravings that made him such a memorable character in earlier Marathon. He's still got an ego, he's still got some sass, but he also seems more stable and mellowed out. Infinity Durandal can be humble, empathetic, caring (he shows genuine concern for saving the BoBs in Chapter 3, for example). While Durandal in M2 seems like he's still going through Rampancy, Durandal in Infinity feels like he's already reached Metastability.
