Shake Before Using: There is no bomb

Shake Before Using in Marathon 1 is meant to be where we defuse a bomb the Pfhor plan to use to destroy the reactors with, but this is a big fat lie: there is no bomb.
First off, when you fail BoB BQ (because the escort levels are unwinnable), Leela leaves out a major detail that winning the BoB BQ mission tells you: that the Pfhor have a bomb and Leela is sending you to stop it.
Playing Shake Before Using is when you are meant to defuse it and Leela repeats herself in a prerecorded message in FIRE!x5, in a corrupted state. However, anyone failing BoB BQ will think this is the first time a bomb is brought up but by then it's too late and it's supposed to be sorted as later levels do not have a bomb.
The deal breaker is the fact that the map you are supposed to defuse it on doesn't have said bomb either: I thought it was just a normal level set in the engine room section when first playing in 2012 as there wasn't anything unusual, save for those switches at the end that only control the reactor pistons, which you don't even have to flip.
I don't think the end terminal of FIREx5 counts as a "large cylindrycal object" despite being on a pillar surrounded by liquid that could cause a blast, otherwise it would be a hexagon or octagon in the engine.
It's like Bungie put the writing in for that plot element, but forgot to actually add a bomb entity to the map, even as level geometry with a switch.
FIREx5's name alongside Shake Before Using and the former's abundance of lava can imply you are supposed to be too late and the magma floods from burst heating pipes into random pits outside the main canals, except that such an event is never explained nor is implied to have happened otherwise.
Long story short, Bungie set us up the bomb.
