![]() | In Response To: Re: Episode 2 (treellama) : Unreal doesn't run in OS X Wrong. If you look at the link on the entry for Unreal, there is a community maintained native OS X app that works if you get the game files for the windows version from Steam or GOG: http://osxcoopgames.net/content/unreal-gold (unless you count WINE, in which case, why bother
Because WINE is not an emulator, and running on OSX using WINE (or on Linux for that matter) is not the same thing as running on Windows. Just because a game runs on Windows does not mean it will run well in WINE, and just because it runs well in WINE on one *NIX does not necessarily mean it will run well on OSX. There are even differences in performance with different versions of WINE. I'm not making a marketing site for Apple. I don't care whether the technologies that enable Mac owners to play games are made by Apple or anybody else. But if you run OSX and WINE allows a game to be played on OSX, then that game can be played on OSX. The fact that WINE is required is immaterial. In fact, there's MORE reason for a site like this with regard to those sort of games, because WINE gives access to a broad selection-- not all, but a large number-- of games that are otherwise unplayable on OSX, and most of the information on how to make Windows games playable in WINE are geared towards Linux users, not OS X users, and the differences, while sometimes slight, can be important. and it doesn't have co-op! What gives? Except it does. I've added two screenshots to the Unreal Gold entry showing it running natively, without WINE, under OS X 10.8.5, as well as the GUI offering to start a network coop game.
